PROJECT RAMP MONROE / LENAWEE COUNTIES

Project Logo

Project Ramp was established in 1990 with a partnership from the United Way of Monroe / Lenawee Counties and the Monroe / Lenawee County AFL-CIO Central Labor Council.  It was a vision of both organizations to help create an accessible home for all in Monroe / Lenawee Counties.  Since 1990, Project Ramp has built hundreds of ramps across Monroe and Lenawee Counties.

For residents, a barrier free access ramp can change their lives.  A ramp can change their lives.  A ramp can allow someone to re-enter their community, attend social events that otherwise they could not have, or begin scheduling medical appointments that have been prolonged because of the inability to leave their homes.

In Monroe, many partners have joined the effort to build ramps. The Monroe County Commission on Aging, Community Foundation of Monroe County, UAW Ford Ramp Program, Gerdau Steel, Carter Lumber and many others are all helping to fill this need.

In 2019 Project Ramp - Lenawee County was established to fill the need of building barrier free access ramps in Lenawee County.  Along with the United Way of Monroe / Lenawee Counties and the Monroe / Lenawee County AFL-CIO Central Labor Council, other local organizations are helping the cause in Lenawee County.  The Lenawee County Department on Aging, Habitat for Humanity, Crossroads Church, Helping Hands, and he Knights of Columbus are all partners in Project Ramp - Lenawee.

Along with building wooden ramps, the United Way of Monroe / Lenawee Counties also has an aluminum ramp program.  For residents in Monroe and Lenawee Counties, we have aluminum ramps that we build on homes of residents that are either renting or in a short- term need. Aluminum Ramps are a great asset for Project Ramp because of the reusable nature aluminum ramps. The ramps are loaned to residents at no cost to the residents, with the understanding that when a resident no longer needs them, we will pick up the ramp and move it to another person home.
